A Little About Tina Turner

Tina Turner, originally Anna Mae Bullock, Is an American-Swiss singer, songwriter, and actress. Born in Tennessee, Tina Turner moved to St. Louis when she was 16, where she became interested in blues and rock and roll. There she met her now ex-husband Ike Turner.

Tina Turner found fame with Ike when their single “River Deep – Mountain High” hit the charts. Later, Tina divorced Ike due to abuse and infidelity. That’s when Tina Turner went on to her solo career releasing hits such as “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “The Best”.

She is now known as the “Queen of Rock and Roll”, being introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 as a solo artist. Turner now has an estimated sales of over 100 million, making her one of the best-selling female musical artists in history. She has stayed relevant in the musical world for over 50 years now.

Scents That Embody Tina Turner

Of all the perfumes that Tina Turner has been known to wear, they all have a little bit in common. She switches between fruity and floral scents with earthy base notes. To me, this makes sense for Tina Turner as it represents her strong femininity that is also independent and powerful.

Fruity Top Notes

From her most unisex scent, Annick Goutal Eau Du Sud, to her most feminine scent, Kenzo Kashaya, fruity notes are a staple scent for Tina Turner. You can smell citrusy tones in almost all of the perfumes she wore and juicy sweetness in some of her most fruity scents. Citrus, fruity notes are head turners and easily recognizable, just as Tina Turner was.

White Florals

What says femininity more than white florals. You can find some strand of white floral inside every fragrance that Tina Turner wore. Whether it be the whole scent is floral through and through or simply thrown into the middle notes somewhere. If Tina represented one thing, it was divine femininity, and white florals are the perfect scent to symbolize that.

Earthy Base Notes

A scent worn by Tina Turner would not be complete without showing some power. What better way to do that than with earthy base notes. It is amazing the effect that scents coming from the earth can have on a person, from having a calming effect to giving you a burst of energy. If Tina Turner’s music doesn’t have the exact same effect on you, I don’t know what does.

Tina Turner’s Signature Scents

Annick Goutal Eau Du Sud

Annick Goutal Eau Du Sud

Pros

  • Unisex
  • Very natural smelling
  • Excellent sillage

Cons

  • Not the best longevity
  • Maybe too masculine for some women

Top Notes- Basil, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange

Middle Notes- Lime, Lemon Verbena, Mint, Jasmine

Base Notes- Oakmoss, Vetiver, Patchouli

Annick Goutal Eau Du Sud is straight to the point. A citrusy, herbal scent with earthy base notes. When you first spray it on, a burst of lemony basil hits you. It’s very natural compared to some citrus perfumes that are a super sweet, fake scent. After a couple of hours, the scent settles into a more masculine, earthy smell.

This perfume’s sillage is great. As you spray it, it fills the room with a citrus cloud that is not overbearing. For the first hour, this scent follows you like a trail of breadcrumbs.

Even though the sillage on Annick Goutal Eau Du Sud is amazing, the longevity is lacking. It’s not the worst longevity I’ve seen, but it may only last four or so hours. Needing to respray a couple of times throughout the day wouldn’t be a huge deal if it wasn’t for one bottle costing over $100.

Michael Kors Michael

Michael Kors Michael

Pros

  • Excellent longevity
  • A little goes a long way
  • A universal scent

Cons

  • You can easily overdo it

Top Notes- Freesia, Chinese Osmanthus, Tamarind, Incense

Middle Notes- Tuberose, Arum Lily, Peony, Iris, Orris Root

Base Notes- Musk, Cashmere Wood, Vetiver

If you are looking for something more feminine, Michael by Michael Kors is it. The white floral scent is sweet but not artificially sweet. Some even say it almost smells of bubblegum or banana. The floral scent is very dewy, as if you have just walked into a greenhouse of tuberose, Making it a great spring and summer scent.

This scent is definitely a show stopper. Everyone who wears it gets compliments from multiple people on their scent. It is a professional scent that is also characterized as sophisticated and elegant. You could easily wear Michael to the office and then continue it to an evening, formal event.

A little goes a long way with Michael Kors. You could easily overspray, and the scent becomes too overwhelming. This also means that the sillage is amazing! So just remember a spray or two is plenty to last you 8 hours or more, and you won’t have issues with it being too strong, which is great for your pocketbook.

Hermes Amazone

Hermes Amazone

Pros

  • Unisex
  • Awesome projection
  • Classy without feeling old
  • Sticks to a green, floral from top note to base note

Cons

  • Mediocre longevity

Top Notes- Galbanum, Cassia, Neroli

Middle Notes- Brazilian Rosewood, Mandarin Orange, Bergamot, Violet Leaf

Base Notes- Narcissus, Hyacinth, Black Currant, Rose, Iris, Orris Root, Jasmine, Rasberry, Lily-of-the-Valley

This unisex scent is unique in that it is floral but not sweetly floral. Men and women alike can enjoy this scent. You get more of an elegant; fresh sent with this floral perfume. You can wear this scent from autumn through winter since it is more of a softer, green perfume.

Amazone came out in 1974, making you think it may be too mature for younger women. However, Hermes did a great job of keeping this perfume elegant and timeless. There is no scent in this that is predominantly strong or sweet, making it relevant throughout the decades.

The floral scent fills the room when you apply it. However, the top and middle notes only last about an hour before settling into the base notes. That is not great longevity for a perfume. You will need to reapply this perfume multiple times throughout the day.

Versace V’E

Versace V'E

Pros

  • Designer brand
  • Smells very realistic
  • The unique cube bottle design

Cons

  • Discontinued

Top Notes- Aldehydes, Green Notes, African Orange Flower, Bergamot, Amalfi Lemon

Middle Notes- Narcissus, Rose, Ylang-Ylang, Cyclamen, Jasmine, Orris Root, Lily-of-the-Valley

Base Notes- Oak Moss, Sandalwood, Virginia Cedar, Heliotrope, Amber, Musk

Versace V’E screams the 90’s scent that everyone looked for then. An aldehyde floral that gave a nice clean, soapy scent. Unlike other floral perfumes from this time, this one smells like a batch of freshly cut flowers rather than the fake floral scent you find in a lot of perfumes.

We all know Versace for turning something classy and luxurious into something a little bit sexy. This perfume does just that by giving you that ultra-feminine scent while keeping it professional. You can also tell this is a luxury brand by the bottle. It has a unique, off-centred cube shape that is heavy and expensive-looking.

Sadly, Versace V’E has been discontinued. This is due to some of the ingredients no longer being recommended for use in perfume and the high expense of the ingredients making it no longer profitable. What is out there is all that’s left of it. There has been no news of reformulating this perfume to release it again.

Kenzo Kashaya

Kenzo Kashaya

Pros

  • Made for younger wearers
  • A sweet scent without being overpowering
  • Very feminine

Cons

  • Not great longevity

Top Notes- Peach, Vulgar, Pineapple, Hyacinth, Anise, Tangerine, Bergamot

Middle Notes- Ylang-Ylang, Tuberose, Orchid, Daffodil, Carnation, Orange Blossom, Lily, Pink Jasmine

Base Notes- Benzoin, Amber, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk, Cedar

Kenzo is a wonderful daytime scent that can be worn seamlessly during the warmer months or during, the colder months for a pick-me-up. It bursts with a juicy fruit smell and then settles into a warm, spicy floral. The main note that is unmistakably noticeable in this perfume is peach. It’s almost like they wanted to take peach to the maximum that you possibly could with this scent.

The main difference between this perfume to the others listed here is it is more suitable for younger wearers. Less elegant and more playful. Even though this scent is a sweet, almost candy-like scent, it is not overpowering like some other fruity scents from the ’90s. You can walk through an area smelling delightfully sweet without smelling like you just came out of a candy factory.

The longevity of this perfume is not the best. The opening sweetness that you get from the fruit notes settles into a spicy, floral within an hour on most people. This is slightly disappointing due to the fruit notes being one of the defining characteristics of this perfume.

What Perfume Does Tina Turner Wear: Which Is the Best Scent

The two scents that Tia Turner is most known for wearing are Annick Goutal Eau Du Sud and Michael Kors Michael. Out of these two scents, I recommend Michael Kors Michael. You definitely get the most bang for your buck with this scent due to its longevity, the ability to wear it anywhere, and the bottle lasting a long time before you run out.

Annick Goutal Eau De Sud is great for those that don’t enjoy a super feminine scent, though. These two perfumes are very different, so the ultimate decision is up to which one works better with your body chemistry. Michael Kors is technically an amazing perfume and has a very floral, sweet scent. Eau Du Sud is more of a masculine scent, being a citrusy, herbal perfume.

Using both of these perfumes interchangeably is also a great option. While Annick Goutal embodies Tina Turner’s independence and power, Michael Kors manifest Tina’s fierce femininity. Depending on how you are feeling that day, week, or month you could easily switch between these two scents.
