About Kilian Love, Don’t Be Shy
Love, Don’t Be Shy is a gourmand fragrance, meaning it has dessert notes. It’s a super sweet perfume with notes of vanilla, sugar, and caramel.
To balance out the sweet notes, Kilian uses sweet neroli, bergamot, coriander, and pepper, as the top notes. The combination of sweet, zesty, and peppery gives way to a floral bouquet of jasmine, orange blossom, iris, honeysuckle, and rose.
To me, the scent is too much. I don’t know about you, but I would rather discover an alternative.
As I said in the intro, Kilian is notorious for being expensive. That’s because Kilian is a niche fragrance company. All of the scents that Kilian creates are high-quality, and they last a long time. However, I think Kilian’s scents are too complex, and I know others prefer something simple in the fragrance department. That’s why I suggest looking at my dupes before spending over $300 on this perfume.
Tips When Selecting Fragrance Dupes
I will cover the specific criteria I followed when selecting these dupes. But first, I want to explain some general tips when finding dupes of any perfume.
Price
Did you know that the price of perfume is increasing? Last year alone, the cost of perfume increased by 15%. Fortunately, there are so many options in the perfume world, and it’s not necessary to pay a crazy price for a perfume.
Remember that Kilian is a high-end fragrance brand, and the $300 price tag has more to do with the luxury aspect than the quality of the perfume. There are cheaper fragrance alternatives that smell just as amazing.
Perfume Type
You have likely seen perfumes have different classifications. Here are the common ones that you’ll see:
- Eau de Toilette
- Eau de Parfum
- Eau de Cologne
- Body Mist
What are the differences? It all boils down to perfume oil concentration. Parfum has 15-20% perfume oils, Toilette has 8-15% perfume oils, Cologne has 4-7% perfume oils, and Body Mist has 1-3% perfume oils. How do you find two fragrances with similar scents? Look at the fragrance notes. Perfume notes are the individual scents that make up a fragrance. These notes are usually lumped into three pillars: top notes (the first scents you smell), middle notes (appear once the top notes evaporate), and base notes (the scents that last the longest).
You can easily search for a fragrance and its scent notes. Most sources will even break down which notes appear where. I suggest comparing different perfumes and finding the one with as similar fragrance notes as possible.
Where to Buy Kilian Don’t Be Shy Dupes
Can you buy the fragrance at a store near you? Or can you only buy the perfume online? These are questions you also need to ask yourself when shopping.
Some brands are also only available in certain countries. I go back and forth between two countries. I struggle to find some of my favorite brands in Canada but those same brands are accessible in the U.S., and vice versa.

#01 Dossier Floral Marshmallow
There’s a reason why Dossier’s Floral Marshmallow is my number one pick. If you look on the website, you can see that they used Kilian’s Love, Don’t Be Shy as the main inspiration for this fragrance.
Now, Dossier’s dupe isn’t 100% identical to Love, Don’t Be Shy. The Dossier perfume starts with top notes of marshmallow and orange, though the fragrance does open up to honeysuckle and neroli scents. At the base, you’ll smell amber, vanilla, and musk.
Let’s look at the price of the Dossier fragrance. This Dossier dupe is only about $40! Dossier is also a cruelty-free and vegan brand; so many luxury fragrance companies either conduct animal testing or are owned by a company that isn’t cruelty-free. I actually do want to mention that Kilian is cruelty-free. However, they’re owned by The Estee Lauder Company, which isn’t cruelty-free.
Dossier allows returns within 30 days of purchase. Keep in mind that Dossier no longer gives free samples, but all perfumes are risk-free. You can read more about Dossier’s return policy on their FAQ page.
There are some downsides of Dossier. First, I can’t find this brand anywhere in stores (correct me in the comments if I’m wrong). I can find Kilian fragrances at my local Sephora store. This is a shame since I like spraying perfume on myself and walking around the mall before I buy the fragrance.

#02 Pacifica Silver Moon
I discovered this fragrance because I’ve been on a forever mission to find a dupe for Nina Ricci’s now-discontinued Luna. Luna is an amber vanilla fragrance, but it has more seductive than a sweet fragrance.
I haven’t been able to find an exact dupe, but I did come across Pacifica’s Silver Moon while at Target and then found it on Amazon here. I was first entranced by the vanilla and spice notes, but this fragrance smells more like almond on me. If you need a specific example, think of the Almond Cookie products from Carol’s Daughter. They smell amazing, don’t get me wrong, but that wasn’t what I was looking for.
However, I think Silver Moon is a better dupe for Love, Don’t Be Shy. Like the Kilian fragrance, it has a sweet yet light scent. It’s a good perfume for both daily and evening wear. The Pacifica fragrance lingers if your pheromones love vanilla scents. Mine don’t, so I could only smell the lovely almond scent for about an hour. Vanilla fragrances also set off my migraines, but this one didn’t.
Since all Pacifica fragrances, not just this one, follows specific fragrance notes, their scents may not work for everyone. This is the reality with this Silver Moon fragrance; as I said, it only smelled almond on me, and others have said this perfume smells like powder on them. Fortunately, you can find a sample of this fragrance at Target and try it out before buying.
Think of a warm night, wrapped in a cozy blanket looking at the crescent moon, taking time to regenerate. That is the vibe of this complex blend of vanilla, bold and creamy.

#03 Layered Caramel Overdose
Are you a gourmand fan but prefer the scent of caramel? That sounds like me! To me, caramel has more of a candy scent, but it smells deep and sensual. Plus, caramel is such a versatile note; it works perfectly in gourmand perfumes but also adds more sweetness to floral perfumes.
It seems like the scent Caramel Overdose by Layered offers just that. The Layered perfume has a very sexy smell, so it’s perfect for a date night. It’s also long-lasting, great if you’ll be out all night.
There are some downsides to this fragrance. First, it’s not 100% similar to Love, Don’t Be Shy. Love, Don’t Be Shy has no caramel notes while this one by Layered is completely caramel. Still, they’re both long-lasting gourmand fragrances. At about $85 CAD, Layered perfumes aren’t cheap, though are still more affordable than Kilian perfumes. Layered also doesn’t have a very generous return policy.

#04 The Body Shop Vanilla Eau de Toilette
I’ve fallen in love with The Body Shop’s fragrances. I just picked up one of their limited edition pumpkin scents for fall, and it smells like a pumpkin cookie.
But for this list, I’m recommending their classic Vanilla Eau de Toilette perfume. If you’re looking for a true vanilla perfume, this is the one to choose. It’s not too sweet but also light. Because it’s light and not as sweet as other vanilla perfumes, this is a good daily fragrance. Even as a Toilette perfume, this is a long-lasting fragrance.
The Body Shop is a cruelty-free brand. This perfume is certified vegan and is made of 93% natural ingredients. The bottle is recyclable. At $16, this is a good price for all of these benefits.
The warm and sweet, seductive aroma of vanilla comes to the fore for this charmingly light eau de toilette.

However, this fragrance does have a warmth to me, which makes it a good daytime and nighttime fragrance. If all of these notes work well for you, then this scent will likely last a long time.
Remember that this is still a designer fragrance, so the price tag will be pretty high. I’m seeing this perfume costs around $120.
Beyond physical health, this product can help to improve your mood, enhance your appearance and boost your self-esteem. It can also help to exhibit personal style and it is an important element of social expression.

Lush’s Vanillary perfume is often said to be a cheaper dupe for many expensive fragrances. At $55 for a bottle, this perfume should definitely be within your price range.
So, this is a vanilla fragrance? Actually, this perfume is more complex than you think. I like to describe the scent as “cinnamon bun perfume.” In addition to vanilla, this perfume features caramel, jasmine, and tonka bean notes. Thanks to the caramel and jasmine notes, this perfume has a sexy scent but is sweet enough to wear daily. If these notes work for you, then this perfume will last a long time.
That said, if you want a full vanilla perfume, this one isn’t for you. The fragrance may also be too strong and sweet for some people. Some people even complain that they don’t find the floral and sweet notes balancing each other as well. The bottle is affordable but small, only 30 mL.

Sweet Redemption is an amber floral fragrance with notes of vanilla, orange blossom, and myrrh. This fragrance has an Oriental feel yet is still intense and long-lasting. I prefer this fragrance because it has more of a mysterious vibe, perfect for a night out.

I was never a fan of this fragrance, but I know it’s one of the most popular releases by Bath and Body Works. If you’re a fan of vanilla fragrances, this one is a classic for you. The scent is exactly as the name suggests, it combines sweet vanilla with sugary candy.
The fragrance still holds a bit of mystery and complexity to it, making it a good vanilla perfume for day and evening wear. At the same time, I think this depends on your pheromones. Some people say they smell exotic vanilla orchids, but I just smell vanilla cupcakes.
Keep in mind that Bath and Body Works has changed the fragrance. They added jasmine to the scent, which is one of my favorite floral scents of all time. Unfortunately, long-time Warm Vanilla Sugar wearers are complaining about this change.

#09 Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Nectar
Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb series is one of my absolute favorites. Every fragrance in this collection smells amazing. While the classic Flowerbomb will always be my favorite, the Flowerbomb Nectar is a unique take on the classic.
Like Love, Don’t Be Shy, Flowerbomb Nectar has some zesty bergamot notes but transcends into a jasmine bouquet when the middle notes hit. Tonka bean and vanilla balance the rich floral notes, resulting in a warm floral fragrance. Since this scent does have a twist to it, I recommend it most as a nighttime scent, but it lasts long enough to wear all day and night.
It is made to be an intense scent for the evening, more intimate and mysterious that the original.

Like Love, Don’t Be Shy, Oriana starts with citrus notes with a floral bouquet in the heart. The base combines whipped cream, marshmallows, and musk. Sure, it’s not a copy of Love, Don’t Be Shy, but it has the same vibe with a few more florals added to the mix.
A gourmand, floral and fruity fragrance designed entirely as a variation on texture. A mille-feuille of flaky sweetness, softness, and sensuality.
